Specialized support troops provide operational support to combat units and create conditions for the successful conduct of operations. Their work covers reconnaissance, engineering support, communications, navigation, electronic warfare, logistics, and protection of troops.
- Reconnaissance units collect information about enemy positions, equipment, air defense and artillery, as well as terrain features, providing commanders with information superiority. Tactical reconnaissance involves not only classic recon groups but also artillery, engineer, radio and radiotechnical, radiological and chemical reconnaissance, as well as UAV units.
- Meteorological units operate within missile, air defense, artillery, combined arms units, and army aviation. They assess the impact of weather on the use of weapons and equipment, ensuring accuracy and effectiveness of strikes and operations.
- Engineer troops are responsible for creating the infrastructure needed for combat: they build pontoon bridges, construct fortifications, establish obstacles, conduct demining, and neutralize explosive hazards. Experience in ATO/JFO and the full-scale war proves that without engineer troops it is impossible to stop the enemy or build reliable defensive lines.
- Topogeodetic units provide troops with up-to-date maps, geodata, and navigation information. They create and update digital maps, 3D terrain models, and imagery products used for operational planning. Accurate topography ensures precise artillery fire and correct routes for maneuvering units.
- Signal units form protected radio, satellite, and trunked communication networks, support modern command and control systems, and ensure information security and cyber defense. The transition to digital technologies and NATO standards allows effective control of forces even under intense enemy electronic warfare.
- Radiation, Chemical, and Biological Defense (RCB) troops protect personnel in the event of industrial accidents, use of weapons of mass destruction, toxic agents, or biological threats. They conduct RCB reconnaissance, decontamination, degassing and disinfection, deploy decontamination stations, and create smoke screens to conceal troops and facilities.
- Electronic warfare (EW) units operate in the invisible electromagnetic domain: they disrupt enemy UAV control channels, interfere with communications, navigation, and reconnaissance systems, while protecting friendly assets from hostile interference.
- Automotive troops are responsible for the transportation of supplies, weapons, equipment, and personnel, as well as for medical evacuation and special transport missions. They employ trucks, heavy haulers, fuel tankers, ambulances, and mobile repair workshops.
- Road troops include traffic control, road construction, and bridge-building units that regulate movement, ensure camouflage and discipline on military routes, and are responsible for building, repairing, and restoring roads and bridges.
- Technical support units handle the maintenance, repair, storage, and return to service of weapons and military equipment. They operate repair units, depots for weapons, ammunition, and technical property, as well as specialized calibration and maintenance workshops.
