Military Training

Most training centers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine belong to the Ground Forces. Recruits undergo training according to a unified standard adapted to NATO requirements (STANAG), with consideration of Ukraine’s own combat experience.

  • Since 2025, the Basic Military Training (BMT) course lasts 51 days and covers physical and marksmanship training, small-unit tactics, combat engineering, counter-UAS measures, tactical medicine, evacuation, and survival skills.
  • For certain categories of service members whose duties are performed mainly in the rear, there is a 30-day program with adapted content and physical demands.
  • The first days of the course are devoted to psychological adaptation to military service: recruits work with military psychologists, learn to cope with stress, and take care of their physical and mental health.
  • Each topic within BMT is studied for 1–2 days to avoid overloading and loss of focus. The course concludes with a three-day complex tactical exercise, after which recruits receive Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) 100 — “rifleman”.
  • After completing BMT, service members undergo specialty training that lasts from 14 to 40 days, depending on their assigned role.
  • A number of combat brigades of the Ground Forces have their own training centers where new personnel are trained by instructors from these units who have direct combat experience.
