The Armed Forces of Ukraine create conditions for all service members to develop professionally, upgrade their qualifications, or acquire a new profession — even while defending Ukraine.
- For recruits: 51 days of basic military training and 14–40 days of specialized professional training.
- For experienced service members: leadership courses for NCOs; the opportunity to complete a military higher education institution or officer courses for those who already hold a civilian degree; professional training to acquire new military specialties; qualification-enhancement courses, including those conducted in NATO countries.
- Educational opportunities: service members can study at higher education institutions full-time, part-time, or remotely; service members, veterans, and people with war-related disabilities have the right to enter state and municipal vocational, professional pre-higher, and higher education institutions outside the competitive process and study free of charge; veterans may enter without taking NMT via entrance examinations, including remotely; the right to obtain a second higher education or professional retraining funded by the state; the right to study foreign languages free of charge when needed.
- Professional adaptation to civilian life: retraining and qualification-enhancement programs are available for service members planning to transition to civilian life, provided through the 'Ukraine–NATO' projects, 'Education for Veterans', 'Norway–Ukraine', and state centers for veterans’ professional adaptation.
